President’s Letter / February 2022

Hi!

February 19 dance at Wightman School. Amanda Wolf will DJ and teach rumba.

Christine Zona is organizing a (short) mini competition with CMU Ballroom Dance Club members and adults planning to compete in the USA Dance National Ballroom DanceSport Championships at the Wyndham Grand Hotel, April 1-3. Come to support and cheer them on!

Local Volunteers Needed!

Experienced national volunteers are organizing the Championships. We have been asked to encourage local dancers to compete, come to the social dance on Friday, watch the heats towards the championships for youth, pret-teens, collegiate, adults, and professionals and help with logistics involved with competitor registration, ticket sales for spectator events, and ballroom access and control.

Volunteer incentives include free ballroom access to daytime or evening sessions if you work at least 3 hours in that session. If you work 8 hours in a day, there is free access to the ballroom and $75 cash food voucher. We specifically need volunteers in the evenings and on Sunday.

Sign up for the job and times you want to work by clicking on the link to the Volunteer Registration Form on our website and/or contact Eva Maschak, emaschak4@gmail.com, for additional information.

President’s Letter & Salsa Lesson

Hi!

Happy Spring! I hope this finds you well and safe, and enjoying the nice weather.

With more people being vaccinated and the indoor capacity limits rising, it feels like we may be able to hold a social dance by the end of the summer. Although we’re anxious to start dancing again, we’re also trying to be cautious to ensure everyone’s safety.  It’s been a long year.

We’ve co-hosted three virtual lessons with the South Hills Arthur Murray Studio. David and Ashley David Geidel have taught Cha, Rumba and Swing on the third Saturday, our normal social dance night, in January, February and March. The quality of the teaching has been very high. Videos of the patterns were shared for the first two, but due to technical difficulties in March, the whole lesson was shared. A huge value for $5.00!

On April 17, from 7-8 pm. Salsa will be taught by David and Ashley at their South Hills Studio. Up to 10 couples can come, with masks, to the studio at 3328 Washington Road (Rte. 19) (rear), Canonsburg. You can register for attendance along with the admission payment of $5.00 on the Pay Pal page of our website, www.usadance.org.  A Zoom link will be sent before the event.

We’ll let you know if anything changes.

Hope to see you sometime soon!
